Tuesday, January 5, 2010 - At approximately 1800 hrs the task force assignment was struck for the dwelling fire located in the 200 block of Lucas Lane, in the Echelon Glen section of Voorhees Twp. The arriving Chief (McCluskey) reported a 3 story multiple dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the third floor. The all hands was sounded and companies went in service with multiple hand lines and the entire building was being evacuated by Voorhees Police units.
The fire had gained considerable headway and communicated into the attic space and when conditions got untenable, the evacuation order was sounded and all companies went defensive. A master stream was placed in service along with other lines and once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crew re-entered to complete extinguishment and overhaul. All searches were negative and no injuries were reported.
Initially Rehab 1 and 2 were sent on the all hands, and Rehab 13 was dispatched at 1822 hrs. Upon arrival Rehab 13 and U1386 with 8 personnel were able to access Lucas Lane and set up about 300' away from the fire building and deployed water, MVP, and cooling towels to the A side of the fire near the CP66. Rehab 13 went in service with hot beverages, hot food, and placed folding chairs in a safe area for fire and EMS personnel along with about 35 residents that were evacuated from the fire building. The rest room got extensive use by emergency and civilian personnel.
Rehab 1 and 2 went in service as well providing food and beverages at the end of the access road leading to the fire.
OEM 3 (Camden Counties New Rehab Bus) also responded to provide shelter for the residents displaced due to the fire and the American Red Cross was also on scene to assist with housing for the residents not able to return to their units due to fire and smoke damage. Camden County Fire Police were special called for traffic control.
Rehab 13 remained on scene until released by Command at 2152 hrs.
